The Subaru OBXT shows flow restrictions and this is most likely due to the stock turbo.

Its also very interesting an engine of 8.2:1 compression and this limited. Torque and power is low. I personally would think I would have more torque for off-road performance, all control by throttle and traction control. Interesting.

Update. We found some major leaks that plaques the USDM OBXT. TMIC is leaking and turbo issues. For right now we are resolving boost leak issues.

Possible Turbo Upgrades

Ok. Here are my thoughts after working with "InTheBay" log reviews and general overview of the performance of the XT in a detail manner. That is looking at the boost response, Engine VE, Fuel, Ignition, etc and thinking of a possible turbo upgrade for the XT using either Blouch or BNR

Based on the internet feedback on the XT, I can safely assume "InTheBay" OBXT is no different to any other XT out there. Per usual, there is a lack of visual data on this and thanks to when I first started out Tuning, sites like Edge Tuning did just that.

If you look at the spec on the XT (Xtreme Racing Tuning ? View topic - ColinW - 2005 Subaru Legacy Outback XT 2.5 5EAT Tuning), I personally find it interesting the engine compression is low, but this could be due to "pissed" poor gas it may see around the world. Who knows. Compression is on par with STI's etc.

The turbo specs as noted on the internet and as show here (Xtreme Racing Tuning ? View topic - ColinW - 2005 Subaru Legacy Outback XT 2.5 5EAT Tuning), one can say it could be equivalent to the Garret GT2056:

That being said from tuning, I hit a hard limit of 28+ lb/min engine flow. I could reach 30, but it doesn't make sense since the stock engine flows 26 and going to 28, I am see some pinging. So that tells me although there are mods like a bigger Perrin TMIC, new headers and full turbo-back exhaust system, there is a limit.

The Blouch GT 380XT and the 440XT are nice turbos. There produce 380chp and 440chp consecutively. One fantastic design is the 68mm Extruder billet compression wheel.

The BNR turbo hybrids looks like a nice setup and economical. There do not carry billet wheels, except for the FP 68HTA compression wheel. Based on cost and performance, the BNR/HTA 68-TD05H offers the best of both worlds. Quicker spool, nice midrange and good top end due to the TD05H.

We are looking at the Steamspeed Garrett GTX style compressor wheel on a Kamak based CHRA and Kamak STS 9-blade Inconel 718 Turbine wheel.
