Well things are going good so far. I worked with Ed on team viewer, he was able to get thing going. I was able to test load up a new Rom, it went well so we uploaded the new rom. Now I went out and was following direction of logging. I found a small stretch of empty road but when I did a 2nd gear pull the car was pulling so damn fast and hard I ran out of room . I did get a 1st gear pull and logged all of this. The car was running very strong on the 91 Oct. (used 89 pure Oct in the past).

Well I thought this was a tuned version, but it was not hahaahaha . It was a different Rom to test out. So I am to damn excited about the real tuned version Ed is working on.:spin:.

I found some 2 mile fresh highway to do 2nd and 3rd gear test pulls on. I am going to get this going Saturday. I have to pick up the little guy after work. (no crazy times with him). Ed is also working on the 4EAT tuning to.

Stay tuned people, this is going to be great. :spin::spin::spin::eek:
bbm message:
I noticed it was more responsive from the get go. Felt like the Trans was shifting better. I really seem to want to pull more when i gave it gas.

v0a - Tune

This tune was even better than before. I noticed the improved throttle off the bat, and it was easy to climb hills. I really noticed the 2nd and 3rd gear pulls came a bit faster. Before when it went into 3rd gear, I could have read a small book before it shifted to 3rd lol. So far the car has really improved. It feels like it's easier to drive, feels like it wants to go much better than before. I was happy how the car just pulled through 3rd gear faster. Not with my gobs of money in coilovers and suspension work, the car is very stable over 105.

Next is the v1 tune I will be testing out. I will give updates on the new tune as soon as I can. It dropped some snow and icy stuff this morning and I will not be out in that.

Gee, I am looking for some more power and a stronger pull through the RPM range. I’m not the type to want and max out the car. Seeing as how this is my daily. I want to really enjoy the car. I think all should tune if possible. Not just for power but for the car to run better. I also want a quicker shifting tranny, but not to the point I am breaking things. So far this are going well, I saved up and will be getting the Kakimoto Intake chamber and then tune for it.

Loaded the V1 Tune (In Sport Mode)

Well Last night I loaded up the V1 tune and let me say it was NASTY . The car ran so well. from the first start the sound of the car was different, deeper like it was just mad for no reason. :spin::mad: I like it.

I drove through town to the highway and noticed it was even better to drive than the v0a tune. The car was shifting so smooth, and the drivability was still very nice and not harsh. This mean I can drive around town and still be happy.

I got to the highway and some a@@ hat decides to pull my card. So in sport mode I just pressed the gas and it rocketed off pulling hard . I though to my self, "damn XRT racing hooked it up".

So I get to my open road that's nice and flat and get the first pull in and the car is running fantastic. Pulling strong, tranny is shifting quick. I did few more pulls and headed back home. I did a 2nd and 3rd gear pull in manual mode and the car was just pulling past triple digits with no problem.

well I talked to Ed at XRT and he found some things that needed improved on and sent me the V2 tune . I am going to load this up soon and get to logging.

Stay tune for more XRT Racing tuning fun :spin:

Well the tuning from XRT Racing Tuning is truly a need if you want to have a Great running N\A car. I loaded the V2 tune from Ed @ XRT and started the car right up after resetting the ECU. Car idle great, sounds great. I noticed the car sounds much deeper.

I will give more feed back on V2 XRT tune later, due to the fact that I have not logged it yet.

Now What I will tell you is that I have found that the car is truly at it's best in Sport mode with out manually shifting. I have been driving on the V1 tune in sport mode only and noticed that the motor runs smoother, has great power and shifts very well. I hit the highway and was merging and a new Altima decide to speed up . So I gave it gas and half throttle, the legacy downshifted fast, and took of and was just pulling the whole time.

Going up hills, in town driving, highway speeds, full throttle pulls, DWB (Drive By wire) No delay when I hit the gas, better MPG, Quick shifting transmission, better TCU control, and better idle at start and to much more. This tune is needed if you want the car to run great. Not just to make it fast and the furious but to have a truly tune car.

I think people get he wrong ideal when the 2.5I, 3.0R, or 3.6R N\A crowd want to tune our cars. We want a car that is tuned to perform better then stock and add some power. I mostly see turbo guys and a few N\A say it's a waste. It's not a waste. yes you can put tons of money in suspension, and nice wheels like I and most have, but Tuning is a must for any car that you really want to last and perform at it's best and Ed @ XRT Racing Tuning can do this.

If you thinking about it just do it and get a tune. You will not be let down. We are fining up with fine tuning right now on the V2 tune I just loaded last night.

Stay tuned for log details on V2, and more post on how the car is running. I plan to post very often. Thanks

So after driving my 08 legacy2.5i with the XRT tinr and 4EAT , I really love the way the car drive's. I only now drive the car in Sport mode because it seems to run the best in this mode. you can control the way the transmission work with the pedal via the way the car is tuned. The car does really drive like a 5MT when ever you want it to. When taking off slowly the car goes through the gears like normal, and shifts very smooth with no issues.

Now I tested out the take off from a dig and the car sprints off like a gazelle running from a lion. While doing this the car stays in correct gear so you have the power you need. Hills are so much easier to take. It's like there is no effort when taking a step hill.

This is also great when you want to hit the back roads, curves, PDX events or a Road course. It allows you to stay in the gear when your driving hard. No one want the down shift the transmission offers when you do not need it.

Now I wanted to make sure the car was tuned , while keeping the daily driver ability. Ed did a Fantastic job of this. I so happy I found him and pulled the trigger on getting the motor tuned and tranny via the tune. If your thinking about this, just make the leap and get it done. You will not be disappointed. :)

V3 - XRT Extreme Racing Tuning

So I loaded up V3 last night after work. I flashed the car, let it run and then went for a nice highway drive to the store with the family so I could not go hog wild.

From the start the car was even freaking better . the throttle was so much easier and 5 times better to use and very sensitive compared to the throttle controller had on my car.

Also the car seem to be so snappy on the take off, I mean when I touched the gas on the V2 tune it was a nice hole shot, but the V3 XRT tune is nasty from a dig. It almost like the car want to take off like Usain Bolt every time I give it some gas:spin::lol:. I like this cause before the car was a slug so bad.

Note all my other pulls and runs were is 25-32 degree weather and yesterday it was 67 degrees . So I was very impressed on the way the car ran in this weather. Today it will be 73 so I am sure it will be great.

I got on the highway from a dead stop and gave it hell, the car shifted so damn fast out of first and was just pulling through second. I let out half way through at about 60 which was the speed limit and cruised controlled the whole way. I set it at 60 and saw a steady 26 mpg on flat land which is awesome:).

I am very impressed how the 2.5i is running. I have had no issues, hick ups, problems or anything. Car is solid and strong. Now remember the car is still learning everything. So I like to put on at least 35-60 miles before I go nuts just to make sure all is well. I did send off a log to have checked to make sure all is well.

I do now have the V4 log , I here is supposed to be even more nasty then the V3 :spin:.

What's Next for future:

JDM Kakimoto Intake Chamber on the way( Including smooth T tube)
Clean MAF (just to make sure I do this twice a year)
AVO Panel (want tot test it out)
Change ATF (Amsoil Syn, I have it in there now shifts very smooth)
Change Oil (Amsoil SS, I have ran since I bought the car)
Tune After Chamber is on the car

Stay tuned for V4 and I have some vids to share. :)

I got my car tuned by XRT (still in progress, but running amazingly already on the second ROM). Say what you want about limitations of the NA 2.5i partcularly with a 4eat, but Ed west_minist is an amazing tuner and really knows how to harness what's there.

Subject: Welcome back!

V1 has been really nice to drive on. I won't be winning any races, but now that the car sounds different a couple people have "challenged" my station wagon with their muscle cars and hot hatches. They must think I am hiding a turbo or something... or they are looking for an easy win :D I try to brush them off... the streets are not for racing... but for daily driving and surprise passing, it has been absolutely amazing. It can accelerate from 80mph going uphill. It could never, and I mean NEVER do that before. I had to put my foot to the floor just to approach and barely maintain that speed coming out of a valley. It can go to about 90mph in third gear before it shifts to 4th if I keep the pedal down... I never need to drive that fast... everything from low speed to high speed is snappy and responsive, the car definitely lurches forward when I give it more than the lightest touch, except from a complete stop, and going uphill, then it needs to wind up a little but it goes willingly.

Most impressive is the gear selection. Regular automatic mode still seems to follow the prime directive of "get to 4th gear quickly" or "quickly find the gear most efficient for coasting" but it does not do so at the cost of power - if I ask for performance, it delivers., it goes like sport, unless I back off the pedal. Sport mode, I don't know what you did but it stays in the power gear REALLY well. I have noticed a few times it does a quick downshift then back up which actually happens SO quickly, it wastes no power, it puts the power down then it puts it down then it puts it down. That kind of quick micro-shifting was useless when shifts took nearly a full second... now the technique is being harnessed better than I could ever do it manually. I don't know how you manage to tune the engine to make the transmission behave like this... but it is completely amazing.

I know you still have much tuning to do... I look forward to seeing what else you can do with it. Thanks very much,

Pete

I have driven v3 like a granny for 10m then normal polite driving for 15-20m. It accelerated decisively but also mannerly, giving good power without having to scream at the top end. It also coasted along nicely, and made some really fast and smooth shifts that surprised me, but were incredibly appropriate, minor power band adjustments that did not drastically change the motor speed but did improve the power being put down at that moment. Beautiful use of the 4EAT.

Finally I got down to the highway and pushed it around a bit, still raining (but these tires are insanely grippy) so I only drove hard at key passing moments on the straightaways. Very good use of power it seemed. I didn't try to drive it like an auto WRX I just drove it like I drive my girlfriend's civic (and by the way, they are comparable in performance now, even though she has an insane power to weight ratio advantage). This was a better way to learn the TCU and the power is still available whenever I want it.
I am not sure how many of your customers care what is going on behind the scenes, but I find it all very interesting.

Thank you very much for your continued work on this.

Dear Edward,

V0a tune made the car run a lot smoother than running mods without any tune. The throttle response adjustments ed made were absolutely amazing and makes the car feel absolutely more alive cruising around.

-KrisM
V1 power felt awesome I was spinning with traction control off which is something I’ve never experienced launching my car, power felt great as well.

There is a good 2nd gear pull on the 2nd log

-KrisM
Hey Edward,

Tune feels amazing, car is completely different on the 93 tune. I drove over 1000 miles on the tune without having a fear of the tune being bad and ruining my engine. Edward you really know your stuff. I beat a Fiat 500 Abarth in a quarter mile race and have a ton of fun driving around with this newly found top end power. If I’m ever in need of another Subaru tune this is where I’m going.
